New York sustainable home design diagrams showing value of energy efficient windows

WHAT ARE ENERGY EFFICIENT WINDOWS?

Simply put, energy-efficient windows will help keep homes warm in the winter and cool in the summer. They do this by reflecting infrared light to keep the sun's summer heat out and insulated glass to keep the home's winter heat in. These windows will also include frames with a thermal break to reduce any heat transfer between the homes interior and exterior.

There are numerous window options on the market but the most effective designs will include triple pane glazing and will be installed to be airtight around the seams.

HOW DOES IT EFFECT HOME COSTS?

While there is a large range of energy efficient windows available, the most effective ones will be highly engineered windows and can make a serious dent on the construction budget. However, it's important to remember that the long-term savings of these windows will also be significant. We estimate our environmental conscious homes to be roughly 5-7% more efficient and our passive home designs to but 15% more than standard building methods.

Additionally, our architects will consider our clients budget and will be deliberate with the placement and quantity of the glass used throughout the home. This doesn't mean that the home will be void of natural light, but the architect may choose to be quite selective with their use of glass in certain locations.
