Split Plane
Split Plane further explores UP's interest in the idea of contextual contradiction. As with the TableTop project the goal was to juxtapose a modern intervention with a traditional home. The pool house was designed around an existing pool in a sunken courtyard at the rear of the property. The roof plane of the pool house extends up from the existing grade enclosing the pool, further defining the courtyard and covering the indoor spaces of the pool house. The vegetated roof blurs the line between ground and building, making the pool house appear as a glowing jewel tucked underneath the ground plane.
