costs for modern kitchen interior with specialty materials and finishes

The Value & The Costs of
Specialty Kitchen Materials & Finishes

The Value

In the outdated homes of the 50s and 60s, it was common to see a kitchen completely blocked off from the rest of the home. Conversely, in the modern homes we design, we like to think of the kitchen as the heart of the home. Because of this we intentionally plan travel paths to bring people together to gather in these spaces to create new memories.

In order to design the most inviting, functional, and beautiful kitchens, we sometimes recommend special materials or finishes. These upgrades can enhance durability, reduce maintenance, or simply create a one-of-a-kind look.

The Costs

It is entirely possible to design a beautiful, functional and unique kitchen with standard materials that do not increase prices. However, even the highest quality boutique kitchen brand will have a limit to the material and finish options. So, at times, we may suggest customization.

Some reasons we might opt for unique finishes are to relate to other areas of the home, to increase durability in heavily trafficked spaces, reduce fingerprints in homes with young children, increase longevity in regions with extreme climates, or just to create a unique and memorable kitchen.

While all of these things have value they also come with added expenses due to their limited supply and the additional coordination needed to procure them.
