The architecture and interiors combine to revitalize the historic property while simultaneously extending into new, bespoke areas of the home. Designed for a couple of prominent technologists and video game designers, the townhouse design seamlessly integrates their love for classic New York charm and cutting-edge modernizations. Curves elegantly weave through both the interiors and the distinctive brick facade, creating a narrative that honors old and new.
CLASSIC NYC RENOVATION
The restoration of the existing pre-war facade meticulously preserves its historical character. Elevating the entry to the parlor level with a redesigned exterior stair enhances harmony with the neighboring buildings. Every detail, from the refined moldings, restored brickwork, and updated fenestration pays homage to the architectural legacy of the Upper East Side. This initial phase serves as the foundation for the transformative modern addition.
NEW MODERN ADDITION
The new one and a half stories atop the existing townhouse references the neighborhood's aesthetic heritage, while creating addition areas that are specifically tailored to these homeowners. The new spaces include a luxurious penthouse suite, an intimate study, and a private roof deck with awe-inspiring manhattan skyline views. The perforated brick facade and large arched window creates a custom privacy screen that fills the primary suite with ample natural light and a delightful interplay of light and shadow throughout the day.

Inside, our design concept revolves around creating a seamless transition from classic NYC style to more modern aesthetics. The bespoke staircase serves as the centerpiece, gracefully connecting all levels while introducing a sculptural element that captivates upon entry. The interiors reflect this gradual evolution, starting with traditional pre-war influences at the front and evolving into a refined, minimalist ambiance in the rear and upper floors of the townhome.
At the parlor level, you’re greeted by an entry area with elegant arched doorways and niche details, adorned with tasteful interior furnishings that set a refined yet inviting tone. The living room and entry area are bathed in natural light from the large, divided windows and feature modern furniture selections and carefully curated materials and finishes. As you transition into the kitchen area and rear garden you subtly enter into more modern luxury. Flat-panel wood cabinetry and a striking marble island form the centerpiece, complemented by floor-to-ceiling glass doors that blur the lines between indoor and outdoor living. The sculptural staircase, an architectural marvel in itself, gracefully connects the levels, emphasizing the seamless flow and organic unity of the home's design.
The new addition, on the penthouse level, houses a serene and luxurious primary suite. The space features elegant archways and curved ceilings that mimic the curved window on the perforated front facade.
