Core Design Concepts

CURVING WITH THE SITE

The home’s two-story curved massing follows the natural rolling terrain of the property. On one side, the home is carved into the gentle hillside — offering privacy, blending into the landscape, and appearing as a single-story volume. On the other, the two-story rear opens up into bright expanse with natural views, pool, patio, yard, and wildflower gardens. While the front remains framed by wild grasses, the rear becomes a vibrant hub for outdoor living.

ENTER INTO THE LAND

The travel path to enter the home is intentionally compressed to create a sense of discovery, guiding you along a walkway that gradually submerses you into the hillside as you approach. By rotating the long leg of the home’s “L” plan toward the hill, the architecture itself acts as a retaining wall, eliminating the need for additional structures and blending the home into the sloping landscape. This procession leads you to an open-air planted courtyard, featuring a sculptural tree, that acts as a threshold between the interiors and the natural surroundings.

OCCUPY THE ROOF

Maximizing the roof deck transforms it into a stunning outdoor space for the iconic Montauk summers. A sculptural, triangular staircase anchors the home’s curve, visually drawing you to the roof while connecting the second floor to the expansive outdoor entertaining area above. The staircase doubles as a focal point, adding a dynamic touch to the home’s form and flow.

This home was designed to feel as effortless as the Montauk lifestyle itself. From mornings spent in the peaceful courtyard to afternoons by the pool and evenings watching the sunset from the roof deck, every space invites you to slow down and enjoy the beauty of its surroundings. The design celebrates both bold architectural moves and quiet moments of connection, creating a home that feels deeply rooted in its place and purpose.
